  1. I have spider cracks on my house boat roof, i don’t think they are leaking. What is the best way to fix the cracks?
    Thank cobert.

    • Spider cracks can be caused by a couple things but most always are not a serious problem. That being said the problem will eventually get worse if not addressed.

First cause is to much gel-coat in the area that is cracking. The second cause is that area of the roof has been stresses causing the laminate under the gel-coat to crack. Both are fairly easy to fix by a the do it yourself-er. First sand the affected area. Pay close attention as you sand into the damaged area. wipe dust off regularly and see id you have sanded the cracks out. If you sand the cracks out before reaching the laminate the problem was just gel build up. You can now re gel-coat the affected area. If the cracks continue into the laminate continue sanding until they are gone. You will have to lay some chopped strand fiberglass mat over the affected area before gel-coating. Be sure to feather the edges of the mat to make sanding in easier. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help.
